EnergyValue Housing Award 1999
The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Research Center, partnering with the US Department of Energy, NAHB's Energy Subcommittee, National Renewable Energy laboratory, and Professional Builder magazine, conducts the EnergyValue Housing Award.
Awards were presented in five home categories: affordable, custom, factory-built, production and innovative in three climate regions: hot, moderate, and cold. In 1999 there were eight gold winners, three being in the cold climate region. They were: Christian Builders in Minnesota (Custom Home), Ryan Homes in New York (Affordable Home), and Colorado Dream Homes in Colorado (Production Home). A panel of judges who evaluated applications on energy performance and the integration of energy efficiency into the design, construction, and marketing of new homes chose the winners.
Energy efficient features in the award winning home included Anderson Millennium low-e, gas-filled windows, highly insulating (R-15) exterior doors, 2 by 6 framing that allowed a thick blanket of insulation to be placed in the wall cavity, and a geothermal heat pump for efficient heating and cooling. Christian Builders used an extensive air-sealing package to reduce air infiltration and to reduce heat loss through windows, none were placed on the north side of the home. We built the house in conjunction with the Minnesota Suburban Northwest Builders Association as a demonstration for the city of Elk River, Minnesota.
Trillium Award
Christian Builders has won two Trillium Awards in the category of "Best Environment Energy Design". This award, by the Builders Association of the Twin Cities, was given to Christian Builders for Energy House I in 1998 and for Energy House II in 1999. The Trillium Awards recognize high quality achievement in the local building industry. They honor builder and subcontractor teams who work together to create excellent details in homes. Trillium Awards are judged by building industry peers and all entries in the competition are judged against homes in their same price category.

Everything about Windsor Park speaks to the quality of the neighborhood. The distinctive custom home designs, the lush park like setting, abundant wildlife, and the care and attention in construction make this the community our clients have been looking for. Special attention has been given to retain as much of the natural environment as possible and extensive landscaping is used to enhance community open spaces and amenities. Sixty percent of the development is dedicated open space with over 20 acres of wooded park for biking and hiking and a centrally located 12-1/2 acre park. Additionally, there are thirty-one community garden sites each 20'x 50' with a well and gazebo to complete this beautiful garden area.
This master planned community is located North of Elk River off of Hwy 169. Its development is guided by two important documents: a master plan that ensures low density and good community planning and the City of Elk River design guidelines, which help preserve Elk River's wooded environment in all new building projects.
Quality is the driving force behind Christian Builders and a characteristic of every community we build. Partnered with Dynamics Design & Land Co., whose roots and traditions run deep in the Elk River Community you've got a team whose reputation is built on customer satisfaction. Welcome to Windsor Park. May your stay with us be long and pleasant.
Another unique feature of this development is the community sewer system. Each home has a 1500-gallon, 2-compartment tank; the pump section of the tank will have a screen that will eliminate any possibility of solids leaving the tank and going into the drain field (see attached drawings). This is a safeguard to ensure that other neighbors will not be contaminating the drain field. Each tank is pumped to three drain fields and there is a contract with a qualified individual to monitor the sewer system and prepare any required reports to the state.
